The name of this book is a bit ironical, as it doesn't directly teach you how to earn. Honestly, I didn't buy it for the name. I bought it because it was written by Peter Lynch (and John Rothchild). I wanted to get started with investments, and found this book to be something that is easy to understand for beginners. And, I'll be a little more honest with you, if you're buying it for the same reason as me, then get some knowledge about how the stock market works before starting this book.

Now, coming to the main content. What I actually learned from this book was the mindset that is required to become an investor. This book starts with the chapter named 'A Short History of Capitalism', where the author explained how the story of investments started around the world, more emphasis has been given to the history of US capitalism. Now, many people might not like capitalism much, but yes, to be a good investor, you should have a good understanding of how capitalism works. The first chapter explains all about the financial crisis that US has gone through over the centuries, and how they recovered from it, and how companies slowly built the US economy. This gave me a great insight on how economies work at a large scale over time.

The rest of the book talks about how to start investing and how to choose stocks and mutual funds for beginners. But towards the end, it gives examples of a lot of companies, explaining how they started, expanded over time, and brought revolutions in the life of people. This part helps the reader in understanding how companies evolve, what they go through, how they make mistakes, and how some companies die while some recover, turn around and become better than they were earlier.

Overall, I'd say that this book gave me the mindset that I was seeking. I learned what I should expect while going for investments, how to think like an investor, how to understand certain circumstances. There are certain things, that I feel would've taken me years to learn by myself, had I not read this book at this stage.

If you want to become an investor like me, I'd recommend you going for this book before any other one, provided you have some knowledge about stock market, which you can easily get from watching videos on YouTube.

My favourite YouTuber, Pranjal Kamra, has made a video on the book, feel free to watch it by clicking here.
